Earlier this fall, in collaboration with Geoawesome, we released a special report on Earth observation data usage in enterprise companies. We also joined a digital event hosted by Geoawesome to talk about EO data's adoption, the biggest challenges, and the strategic outlook for 2026.
Our VP of Sales John Ohlinger chatted with Hugo Zlotowski, AI Lead at Whiteshield, and Aurelien Francois, Geospatial Product Manager at AXA, about how EO data platforms enable large-scale Earth observation and real-world examples of enterprise EO data usage.
The event is now available to watch on-demand:

The report identifies four major challenges around enterprise adoption of EO data:
- Unclear business case and low awareness
Many decision makers aren't fully aware of EO data's capabilities, and therefore don't understand its true value or how to get the most out of it.
This requires education. Geospatial data in its raw form often lacks product-market fit, and pricing can be restrictive and confusing.
- Data maturity and technical complexity
Large enterprise companies usually have their set ways of working. Integrating brand new types of data into workflows is difficult and takes time, especially into legacy IT infrastructure.
- Human capital and organizational barriers
With the industry's huge growth over the last decade, there's now a shortage of EO experts, or even EO-literate staff. This combined with siloed data governance and a lack of executive sponsorship can stall projects and forward momentum.
- Regulatory, privacy and ecosystem constraints
There's ambiguity around licensing and compliance requirements, which increases perceived risk. In addition, the EO vendor ecosystem is fragmented and prioritizes government clients over non-goverment organizations.
